Cinnamon Pass to American Basin
Shared by dfw.
Cinnamon Pass to American Basin is a high-alpine 4x4 route connecting the Alpine Loop to one of the most accessible basins in the San Juans. The road climbs above treeline with wide exposure, loose sections, and typical mountain pass conditions depending on weather. From the pass, the descent into American Basin is short and scenic, ending in a broad alpine valley surrounded by peaks. In summer, the basin is known for dense wildflowers and serves as the primary access point for Handies Peak. High-clearance vehicles are recommended, though conditions can vary throughout the season.
